Notes[]
- Spawned by fishing with Dried Squid as bait at the big pond at conflux 4 in while in possession of a Smoldering Crab Shell.
- Extremely high physical defense (melee critical hits for about 30 damage), but low magical defense.
- Favors Big Scissors and Bubble Shower early in the fight, but switches to Mega Scissors and Venom Shower later on.
- Mega Scissors: a very powerful conal attack that wipes shadows and resets hate.
- Venom Shower: heavy AoE (20') magical damage that causes Poison (40dmg/tick, lasts 1 minute) and Defense Down. Poison can not be removed by any means except Chakra.
- Benediction also removes poison.
- If you fail to fish him up properly, you lose your bait and must farm another one.
Historical Background[]
In Greek mythology, Karkinos or Carcinus (a transliteration of the Greek word for "crab") was a crab that came to the aid of the Lernaean Hydra as it battled Heracles, bottom left. Karkinos bit Heracles in the foot, but was crushed beneath the hero's heel. For its efforts, however, Hera placed the crab amongst the stars as the constellation Cancer. It is one of a large number of constellations that memorialise the labours of Heracles. The Karkinos is mentioned in the Bibliotheca of Pseudo-Apollodorus, the Euthydemus of Plato, and the Astronomica of Pseudo-Hyginus.
