I recommend the Halcyon rod. I tried fishing West Saruta with the Mithran rod - I couldn't keep them on the line long enough, and even when I could, I lost way too many catches as "too small to catch with this rod".--Vaprak 14:00, 26 July 2007 (CDT)
I don't agree with the "best bait" being worm lure. I fished with one for 1 hour and 8/10 times it was a monster or item. With insect paste I've gotten far better catches with dark bass, not to mention the carps along with them. I would definetly recommend insect paste over the worm lure to anyone looking to skill up, not the worm lure. -Miosis Lakshmi.

Not sure where to put this, but today FFXIAH listed Dark Bass as the Guild Points fish (Pattern G) but when I got to Fennella, she actually wanted Shining Trout. Nkelly1968 (talk) 16:36, August 3, 2013 (UTC)

[Edit] I can confirm these have been replaced by Veydal Wrasse for group D but as these fish are down as group D and G I will have to wait until group G comes up before I remove as a G.P. item.

I know this is inconclusive, but I traded 3 stacks to Zaldon, and he found 3 Green Rocks, which is a much better drop rate than most fish for this quest. Oh, and another use for this cheap, fairly useless fish is pet food in Monster Rearing. --Snorglepuss (talk) 19:43, June 23, 2017 (UTC)
Double Target Fish[]
Using shell bug bait, you can isolate both dark bass33 and Black Eel47 at Bastok Markets seaway, getting skillups from both if you're below 33. From experience, you will get more dark bass than black eel.--Snorglepuss (talk) 16:35, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
